2022–23 Championnat Pro A |
The Championnat Pro A (formerly known as the Championnat National A (CNA)[1]) is the highest tier professional basketball league in Tunisia. The league is organised by the Tunisia Basketball Federation (FTBB). Established in 1956, the league currently features 10 teams.
Étoile Sportive de Radès is the record holder for most titles, with a total of thirteen.[citation needed] The current champion is US Monastir, who won the title in the 2022–23 season. The champions of each season qualify directly for the regular season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL), the premier continental competition of Africa.[citation needed]
Format
Each league season of the Pro A usually starts in the end of September or beginning of October, and has the following format:[2]
- Preliminary round: all teams play each other home and away. The six highest-placed teams advance to the championship round while the other teams go to the relegation round.
- Second stage:
- Play-offs: Six teams play each other home and away once more, with the top four qualifying for the Super Playoffs.
- Play-out: The remaining teams play each other home and away, the last-placed team is relegated to the Nationale 1, the national second division. The other teams go to the play-out.
- Super Play-off: the four remaining teams play each other in a knock-out stage with best-of-three playoff series. The winners of the finals are crowned champions.
- Super Play-out: the first-, second- and third-placed team from the play-out play against the fifth- and sixth-ranked teams from the play-offs. The sixth-ranked team of the Super Play-out is also relegated to the Championnat Nationale 1.[citation needed]
