Object history
Deutsch: Der Inhalt des Schildes (Henne und Löwe) geht auf die geschichtliche Entwicklung der Stadt in der Zeit von 1360 bis 1583 zurück. Während dieser Zeit lebte die Stadt Schmalkalden in einem Kondominat (Doppelherrschaft) zwischen der Landgrafschaft Hessen-Kassel und der gefürsteten Grafschaft Henneberg. Als im Jahre 1583 Graf Georg Ernst von Henneberg kinderlos starb, fielen die Henneberger Besitzungen an Landgraf Wilhelm IV von Hessen-Kassel.
