(Public domain by age (first published in the 1930 Michiganensian at page 108). This work was originally published before 1964, and for the copyright to have been extended, there needed to have been a renewal filed sometime in the 28th year (i.e., 1958). Online searches of the U.S. Copyright Office's Copyright Records web site for "Michiganensian" and "Ensian" revealed no renewal entry for the 1930 Michiganensian. Similar searches of the Stanford University Copyright Renewal Database reveals no copyright renewals for any volume of "Michiganensian" or "Ensian" during the period from 1923-1963. Accordingly, it appears the copyright was not renewed and therefore the work is in the public domain according to either criteria.)
Note that it may still be copyrighted in jurisdictions that do not apply the rule of the shorter term for US works (depending on the date of the author's death), such as Canada (50 p.m.a.), Mainland China (50 p.m.a., not Hong Kong or Macao), Germany (70 p.m.a.), Mexico (100 p.m.a.), Switzerland (70 p.m.a.), and other countries with individual treaties.
