A very short and simple, though well-written, article. Stub is the right ranking. TFCforever (talk) |

Potential page moves
FWIW a heads up on a recently closed RFC, which may effect the naming of this and related pages. GoodDay (talk) 15:48, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- (copied from my other comment for visibility) As the RfC closer, I can confirm that the close applies only to pages related to the NFL draft and has no impact on other leagues or sports. There was some discussion of them at the RfC, but was unrelated to the RfC question or the consensus reached. Anyone trying to use it to bypass discussion on other articles is not interpreting the close correctly. The WordsmithTalk to me 17:16, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
Requested move 27 March 2024
- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: moved. – robertsky (talk) 11:15, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

– Commonly lowercase in sources, like other leagues' drafts. Dicklyon (talk) 04:11, 27 March 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. Natg 19 (talk) 01:04, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
- Data are scarce, but lowercase draft dominates. Dicklyon (talk) 08:47, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- Ngrams without any meaningful context, especially for words that are often used in every day language, are not useful for discussions such as these, there's far too much noise to the data. Especially when usage such as "draft picks" would be lowercased. Hey man im josh (talk) 15:21, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- Neither "CFL draft pick" nor "CFL draft picks" shows any ngrams data,[1] so the concern about "CFL draft" being comingled with other terms is unsupported. —Bagumba (talk) 07:45, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- "lowercase dominates" – er, not really, not even close. Looking at all the first google results, each of which are uppercase unless noted:
- College football teams, such as BSU, Holy Cross, Fresno State
- Calgary Herald
- Sports Illustrated
- 3DownNation (one of the most prominent CFL-specific publications)
- Sportsnet
- Sporting News
- The Leader-Post
- The Football Database
- Calgary Sun
- Global News
- CBC (finally, one that's lowercase)
- American Football International
- The Province
- The Queen's Journal
- That's not even close to "lowercase dominates". BeanieFan11 (talk) 14:59, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- You already started with some of the moves? How many times...? BeanieFan11 (talk) 15:22, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- No, I haven't moved any yet (I earlier downcased the plural Canadian College Drafts (1956–1969), and now that's been reverted for who knows what reason). For sources, books are more reliable, and more independent, typically, than random web pages. See lots of lowercase in books. See summary stats. Dicklyon (talk) 22:20, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hm? You seemed to think that websites were important when it was the USFL, when the numbers were more in your favor, now not? And these aren't "random websites", either, these are some of the most reliable sources when it comes to this topic (Calgary Herald, Sportsnet, Sporting News, Leader Post, Calgary Sun - all very prominent publications on the topic); conversely, I don't think random books are better than that (especially since we don't know how reliable all of them are, whether they're written by knowledgable people, etc.). Also, the Canadian College Draft is absolutely relevant to the CFL Draft (its direct predecessor); you know better than to lowercase sports draft articles without discussion... BeanieFan11 (talk) 22:31, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- The only place I pointed to news was in the 2022/2023 case, where there are no book stats. The CFL Draft is old enough to have fair representation in books. Dicklyon (talk) 04:31, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

- Some news sources use lowercase draft, too:
- Winnipeg Sun
- LethbridgeNews Now
- Times Colonist
- Global News/The Canadian Press
- Regina Leader-Post
- Saanich News
- SaltWire
- SI.com
- Saskatoon StarPhoenix
- Times Colonist
- Meath Chronicle
- 3DownNation
- TSN
- So clearly not "consistently capitalized" in sources. Dicklyon (talk) 08:37, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
- And then there's also in the uppercase camp:
- Ottawa Sun
- U Sports teams
- U Sports itself
- CKRM
- CFL News Hub
- Kingston Whig-Herald
- The Ubyssey
- KMPH Fox News and other local stations
- Pittsburgh Sports Now
- Northern Star
- Western Gazette
- CTV News
- KSL Sports
- Sherbrooke Record
- Barrhaven Independent
- CTV News Kitchener
- 247Sports
- Providence Journal
- Wetumpka Herald
- Bemidji Pioneer
- Rivals.com
- SB Nation
- A good majority of sources appear to be uppercase. Also, it seems the Leader Post, SI and 3DownNation usually use uppercase, although there are a few with downcasing. TSN and Global have some uppercase also. BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:16, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

- Comment - My goodness, this RM needs more input. GoodDay (talk) 22:06, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- Support – With no evidence of near-unanimous capitalization, WP:LOWERCASE clearly says "don't use capitalization unnecessarily". —Joeyconnick (talk) 16:16, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
- Where does it say the requirement is "near-unanimous capitalization"? I don't think using what the league, all relevant teams and a good majority of sources say is using "capitalization unnecessarily". BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:18, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
- Support: We've gone through this sort of thing many times before for similar topics. Sources are mixed; let's use lowercase. — BarrelProof (talk) 02:13, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
- Support Not capitalized in a
substantial majority of independent, reliable source
per MOS:CAPS. The guideline also says:Wik.ipedia.Pro avoids unnecessary capitalization
. Collins defines proper noun asa noun...that is arbitrarily used to denote a particular person, place, or thing without regard to any descriptive meaning the word or phrase may have, as Lincoln, Beth, Pittsburgh
[2] A reader seeing CFL Draft does not attach a different meaning to it than when they see CFL draft. It's purely a description in basic English, not any sort of proper noun like Grey Cup (vs a plain grey cup) or White House (vs white house). Capitalization is not necessary for a reader to understand the meaning here.—Bagumba (talk) 16:39, 5 April 2024 (UTC) - Support. Per Bagumba and prior discussions.
