How about a section on his autobiography and his heartbreaking tale of how Arsenal wouldn't stump up the extra £5,000 to keep him at the club? --81.129.79.35 21:26, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
I agree, quotes from his autobiography of him having to pull his car over to the side of the road sue to his incandesant rage at being offered 'only' £55,000 per week instead of £60,000 by Arsenal. Inanimate 13:11, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

I think the club career should be tidied up. It deals too much with the transfer saga --User:jordan5nick
- I don't think it deals too much with the transfer, but rather too little with his seven years at the club. All his triumphs with the club are essentially boiled down to two sentences! Of course it could use some tidying up, but even more so, a substantial write-up of his time at Arsenal. Poulsen 13:11, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
Stats
the stats table is not only not updated but reflects some inaccurate calculations: if he played 156 times for arsenal, then the total games in his career cannot be 156! well he's no longer in arsenal - whom im much more partial towards - so i guess its much to the chelsea fans to update his stuff. Chensiyuan 23:14, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

Book & advance
I got my original 150,000 figure wrong. The calculation of 75,000 books to break even was based on it requiring 300,000 to break even on a £1m advance, and Cole took £250,000. See citation from the Independent. If this too presumptious, please accept my apologies and feel free to delete. Hammer15 23:35, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

“Barbadian”
There is no need to mention this at all. As the article says nothing about his parents (Were they Barbadian?) No citation also. Conclusion: There is no need to Mention this as it adds nothing to the article. Removing it. Celtic Muffin&Co. (talk) 20:00, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
Allegations
Before this turns into a proper edit war, let's discuss what content in the section on The Sun's allegations on Ashley Cole's affair is pertinent and what is not. It's quite alright to discuss publicized scandals of a couple with such a high profile in the tabloids. Whether we do need to go into all the sordid details such as vomiting and penis length is quite another question. My suggestion is to delete the edit by user 82.20.34.126, albeit dutifully sourced. Audionaut (talk) 16:17, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
It is crucial that Wik.ipedia.Pro be objective and not point of view, and I would contend that your description of these details as "sordid" is based upon your own personal morality. Those were the allegations that were made, and I think it is the right of the reader to know what they were. I would say that it is not enough merely to mention "the affair" but also to give a context to it so that the reader is able to build up a more complete picture. There are different types of infidelity, and as it stood the article may have left the reader wondering whether this was a sustained, "Charles and Camilla" type affair which was based on actual love and affection, a drunken mistake, or a heartless betrayal etc etc. My edit was not an attempt to make judgements about whether his actions were right or wrong, I was merely stating the nature of the allegations. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.20.34.126 (talk) 17:06, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Please, sign your posts. Please, do not put that edit back in. Please, do not put nastiness like that into a Wik.ipedia.Pro article. Why not? If I make the same claim about you, get it into a paper, it will still be inappropriate. sinneed (talk) 18:57, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Onward, entirely beside the point of appropriateness: Size of his penis is of no interest to the world. Whether or not "she" should feel privileged to have him barf in her car is of no interest to the world. It belongs in a tabloid, not in a General Purpose Encyclopedia. sinneed (talk) 19:01, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
I have made a proposed compromise edit. sinneed (talk) 19:14, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
I further note that I have broken 3RR here...because the entire bottom of the article vanished...I had to roll back to retrieve it. I have not seen that before, so I am uncertain how it happened. *shrugs unknowingly* It looks ok now. sinneed (talk) 19:23, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Your "compromise edit" was factually inaccurate. If you had invested as much energy in checking the source material as you had in conveying your righteous indignation, you would have noted that the sexual encounter allegedly took place in HIS friend's bed, not HER friend's car. Cole vomited in the car, the bed and on the carpet next to the bed. So your edit was even less true than mine. I still contend that it is appropriate, and should not be censored. YOU might not want to read about Ashley Cole's penis and sexual antics, but other people do, and they should have the information at their disposal, as long as it has been correctly sourced. By your logic, nobody's personal information would be put on Wik.ipedia.Pro at all. Why not delete the allegation of homosexuality made against Cole, on the grounds that you don't want to read about it? Why not delete everything?
Please stop sending me those accusations of vandalism, as this is clearly an ethical debate, not an unconstructive attempt to introduce falsehoods into the biography of Ashley Cole. - Signed Alun (I don't have an account).
Alun, you can sign your entries by typing four tildes at the end of your entry on a talk page (see top of the edit window). Secondly, I think it is a shame that you didn't take on Sinneed on that compromise. Also, Sinneed referenced your cherished Sun article, so the information would have been at the enquiring reader's fingertips. You could have very easily adapted the factual inaccuracy in Sinneed's edit. I would cordially invite you to do that, so we can all go on to more interesting things.
As for your suggestion to delete the other allegations - You are actually quite right, the whole section could do with a clean-up. The correctness of your observation does not necessarily justify your entering of penis length and the like. I would contend that the interest of this section is that sordid details of their love live are being displayed across the tabloid pages - not *what* these allegations are in detail. Audionaut (talk) 20:00, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
The last 2 edits left the section damanged. The last link is missing, for example. Rather than roll it back again, I will try a different rewrite, not mentioning the vehicle. sinneed (talk) 21:18, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
Hopefully, my swim in the sewer has resulted in no misunderstandings this time. I apologize for my earlier error. I should hope that, as I *WILL* err again, that an interested editor might take the time to make a correction, rather than simply reversing. I have shortened the text substantially, leaving all previous story links in place. sinneed (talk) 21:34, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
I think your edits were an excellent attempt at resolving our dispute. However, the repeated mention of the sexual encounter was superfluous, and I felt this could legitimately be replaced with the reference to vomiting as it was not too "sordid", to use your own terminology, and was separate from the sex act. I think it was also an interesting tidbit when viewed in relation to his status as a professional sportsman and role model to children. Thanks for a stimulating debate on the role of the encyclopedia, I hope all parties can leave the table having learned something, after all, that's what Wik.ipedia.Pro is about. Signed Alun - (I don't know what a tilde is, let alone 4 of them!!) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.2.129.112 (talk) 16:08, 18 November 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, didn't see your comment on here before I reverted. However, I do agree with Sinneed that this is hardly encyclopedic knowledge and would suggest to delete both the sex and the puking. Oh, and try "Alt Gr" + whatever key shows a ~ Audionaut (talk) 11:07, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
The article mentions the sexual / infidelity allegations from 2006-2008, but does not mention the more recent allegations. Lkjhgfdsa 0 (talk) 17:02, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

International career
Cole has played for England at youth and senior levels. He was capped for the England U-20 team at the 1999 FIFA World Youth Championship alongside Stuart Taylor, Peter Crouch, Andrew Johnson and Matthew Etherington. However, the team finished bottom of their group, suffering three defeats without scoring any goals. He also made four appearances for England under-21s, scoring once.
Cole made his senior England début against Albania, on 28 March 2001. He played for England at the 2002 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2004, and was named as one of four England players in the all-star squad for the latter tournament. Cole was also an ever-present for England in the 2006 FIFA World Cup; in their second round match against Ecuador he made a crucial block, deflecting Carlos Tenorio's shot onto the crossbar. The match ended with England winning 1–0, but England were knocked out on penalties by Portugal in the quarter-finals. As of the end of 2008, he has 68 caps for England, all of which were starting appearances. However, he has never scored an international goal.<ref>{{citeweb|url=http://www.thefa.com/England/SeniorTeam/NewsAndFeatures/Postings/2009/02/SpaEng_CapelloSquad.htm|title=Capello Names Squad|accessdate=2009-02-09|date=2009-02-06|publisher=The Football Association}}</ref>

One of the external links goes to this site which appears to have been written in a strange mix of English and gibberish, with outlandish claims that Cole scored 156 goals for Arsenal. It's also the venue for memorabilia sales and adverts, etc. That is to say, it's linkspam and should be removed I think. --80.192.21.253 (talk) 16:14, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

From his career blurb: 'The deal was closed after the transfer window had officially ended, and was not confirmed until an hour and a half after the deadline had passed. and ever since then. [7]' - so this obviously needs work. --80.192.21.253 (talk) 16:19, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

One of the best left backs
In the intro it says he's been called one of the best left-backs in the world. He has, but without a better reference than his own manager saying it we'd be better leaving it out, since managers talk up their own players all the time. I don't have a better reference but there should be one out there. Mbc3001 (talk) 16:44, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
Let me first say that I am a big fan of Ashley Cole and I do think he is the best left back in the world. In my personal opinion, I don't think there is anyone with a better blend of stamina, speed, positioning, crossing, tackling and as well determination to play at the fullback position, at this time. I have made an edit about his consideration as the best left back in the world, and have added 3 citations. Whoever is the best at something is subjective, but if I have added citations from people like Stuart Pearce and Carlo Ancelotti, I think it is reasonable and appropriate to mention that he is "considered" to be the best. Jatinbhatt blap (talk) 12:48, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
- Seems like a long time back when I wrote what I did above. Cole is certainly not the best in the world right now, sitting behind Azpilicueta. Being 33 years old I don't think he'll be getting any better, and is well past his peak. He was the best left back of his time there is little argument against it. So I am mentioning this in the initial lines of his article. Jatinbhatt blap (talk) 04:52, 21 December 2013 (UTC)
Height
Although the source for Ashley Cole's height would seem legitimate 5'9.5" the England player site lists him at 5'8" http://www.englandfootballonline.com/teamplyrsbios/playersc/biocoleash.html
as well as ESPN
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/player/_/id/8054/Ashley-Cole?cc=5901
As well the height listed for Wayne Rooney (5'9") is .5" shorter than Ashley Cole but Rooney is clearly taller see photo evidence
and
I think this fact should be updated to the more accurate 5'8" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.229.196.7 (talk) 17:28, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

"Most capped black player" in lead
Cole is known on the football pitch for much more than the colour of his skin, it's somewhat like splitting hairs to make Billy Wright the most capped player from the West Midlands. References to colour are however notable for players like Viv Anderson who became the first to break a barrier. '''tAD''' (talk) 21:01, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

This entire sentence in Club career > Transfer saga: 2005–2006 needs to be removed - "Arsenal had offered Cole a longer contract to stay at the club, but he had been left "trembling with anger" when they offered him wages of £55,000 per week.[34]"
