"In doing this, Cratylus became one of the earliest philosophical texts of the Classical Greek period to deal with matters of etymology and linguistics."

I find this statement to raise doubt in myself: linguistics, the philosophy of language, and, specifically, the "correctness of names" (as per Reeve's introduction to his translation) was a "topic of great interest to Plato's contemporaries."
