general demethylation reaction
The current written scheme (see below) is not entirely correct, as only one of the two possible mechanisms includes formation of a hydroxymethyl intermediate. IMHO it should be removed, as now a graphical scheme covering both mechanisms is available.
- hydroxylation: R2NCH3 + [O] → R2NCH2OH
- loss of formaldehyde: R2NCH2OH → R2NH + CH2O
