it might be mentioned he was also an amateur composer, with madrigals to his credit; one, "Chi volge ne la mente", was played on BBC overnight a week ago (schedule listing). (Or to be careful, though no doubts were raised there, one attributed to him. I don't know what scholarship has to say on the matter, right now. Should look into it...)
