Iwama aikido → Iwama Aikido —

• Which of these is true?
  1. The place or building is called Iwama Aikido.
  2. The place or building is called Iwama, and "Iwama aikido" means the sort of aikido which is taught there.

• Oppose. The content was duplicating Iwami dojo, which was also a more accurate title, so I have redirected it there. "Iwama aikido" (and "Iwama Aikido") just appears to be a name plucked out of thin air by some Wik.ipedia.Pro editor in the past. --DAJF (talk) 01:14, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the problem: "iwama dojo" is not a suitable title for the general topic of iwama aikido.

• There is more than one dojo in iwama. In fact, these are feuding dojos next door to one another, competing for recognition as the sole true iwama dojo. In fact, the current "iwama dojo" is actually describing a dojo that is offically now called "ibaraki branch dojo" and not "iwama dojo".

• "aiki jinja" has been merged into "iwama dojo", but this has since been opposed largely because the jinja (the shrine to aikido) is clearly not a logical subset of the dojo (the training hall) per se (in fact its address is not even on the same side side of the street as the dojo complex). The section on this shrine currently makes up more than half of the dojo article (!), both parts are really only stubs individually, and they are intimately related topics. It seems the solution for "aiki jinja" would be to find a more appropriate title under which to merge it for now.

• "iwama style" and Saito's legacy are also intimately related with each other and with other aspects of iwama aikido (e.g., the dojo). These pages are a mess, basically because lots and lots of people learned aikido in iwama and then went and started their own dojos in different parts of the world, so their students are currently all trying to get their local area representatives mentioned, creating long lists with little appreciation of relative importance. This can be fixed by choosing a structure with which to organise the material. Bringing some of this together will decrease duplication (since they have most of the same history, and frankly, it is hard to explain the importance of either if you too completely separate "what the people were doing" and "the place they happened to be in"). Also, there are other notable subtopics of the aikido of iwama, which also niether belong under "iwama dojo" per se nor warrant separate individual articles, such as the home of the founder in iwama (since so many students have lived with Saito, as uchi-deshi).
