Talk:Latini

Latini as redirect

Although Latini can also be a person's surname, it makes more sense to me to have Latini redirect to the Italic people, and have a separate Latini (disambiguation) for individuals who share the name or other uses. Maybe this is because I can never remember what the article on the Latini is actually called; therefore, it seems convoluted to me, and not the most direct approach to the problem, since the individuals will be distinguished by their first names. So is the tribe the primary topic for the search term Latini or is it not? --Joy [shallot] (talk) 22:51, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
What I said two years ago is probably incorrect now, given current thinking on what a dab should do. All the links to Latini do seem to want the tribe, however. I guess my thinking used to be that when users are looking for a person, they're likely to type in two names. Over the last couple of years there have also been developments in special surname dabs that improve the approach to disambiguation. Because of the confusion over "Latins," and my personal impression that in modern scholarship this Italic people are more likely to be called Latini, it may be that the article title is at issue. I really don't know. Cynwolfe (talk) 00:33, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
