07/13 Butler County, PA
We've previously listed incidents which happen outside of unincorporated areas as being whatever county or parish the incident occurred in. However, Pennsylvania is divided into townships and the location of this attack happened in Connoquenessing Township. Personally I am in favor of continuing to list incidents such as this as happening in a certain county irregardless of whether or not a state has townships or not for the sake of consistency, but I'd like to hear opinions on this. Raskuly (talk) 04:45, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
- Updated information showing the exact location of the shooting indicates it actually happened in Meridian, but since I brought it up might as well address it. Raskuly (talk) 07:24, 14 July 2024 (UTC)

Preposition concern
I realize that this is very minor compared to the topic at hand, but I've always heard that it's "in a locality" but "on the side of a locality" (e.g. "on the city's west side"), not "in". (This is not to be confused with "in a neighborhood".) I wouldn't know where to begin looking for a source for this since it's so specific; MOS:GRAMMAR is silent on the topic. However, MOS does say to be consistent, and right now there's a mix of "on" and "in" in the article. I also changed the South Bend July 28 entry to "on" not only for what I initially said but also to be consistent with the ref title, and the change was reverted. Mapsax (talk) 00:48, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
- Grammar sites say use in when talking about a location and on when talking about an object: [1] [2] [3] TomCat4680 (talk) 01:22, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
- Brief scan around WP/wikt shows that "side" appears always to take "on": [on the] wikt:wrong side of the tracks, wikt:get up on the wrong side of the bed, On the Sunny Side of the Street; see wikt:on#Preposition #6. Main concern is still article consistency. (I'm willing to move this discussion if need be.) Mapsax (talk) 00:56, 9 August 2024 (UTC)

GVA source ref indicates Lawrence, MA shooting is 1 killed + 2 shot + 1 other hospitalized
both MST and GVA are also reporting the 2024-08-14 shooting in Lawrence, MA as a mass shooting
however, a careful reading of the source referenced by GVA indicates 1 killed and only 2 injured due to gunfire

- Yeah the WCVB source is about the same. https://www.wcvb.com/article/shooting-benington-street-lawrence-massachusetts-police-investigation/61850672 TomCat4680 (talk) 18:43, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
Should we even be including incidents where one of the four casualties is the suspect?
I'm guilty of this myself, but I was mostly just adding these incidents because others were adding them, but I think the majority of these incidents in which one of the casualties is the suspect would not meet the criteria of at least two of the definitions we are using. Raskuly (talk) 01:17, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- The other seven say we should include them so we should go with the majority. TomCat4680 (talk) 01:51, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- I don't understand. In the table Definitions of the term "mass shooting" all but one definition says to exclude the perp from the count. Should we also not count the perp as a casualty? WWGB (talk) 10:55, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- Depends on if they shot themselves or if the cops or somebody else did maybe? TomCat4680 (talk) 00:51, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
