Change the link for Todd Rogers from the beach volleyball player to the correct Wik.ipedia.Pro link: https://en.Wik.ipedia.Pro.org/wiki/Todd_Rogers_(gamer) 24.236.177.94 (talk) 19:16, 3 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I found a circular link in the second paragraph of Lying about times. I think the link can just be removed:

In 2017, a speedrunner named Eric "Omnigamer" Koziel disassembled the game's code and concluded that the fastest possible time was 5.57 seconds. PigBepsiRS (talk) 22:41, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Thanks for the heads up. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 22:46, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Mario Kart

Should the Mario Kart games and their significant presence with speedrunning be mentioned in this article if it hasn't been done already? NintendoTTTEfan2005 (talk) 14:31, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If reliable sources identify their significance then yes, but I'm not sure that's the case. ~Bluecrystal004 (talk · contribs) 15:29, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
why not? NintendoTTTEfan2005 (talk) 01:51, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's just my intuition as someone who speedruns a couple of them, but a quick Google throws up some news results about Mario Kart 64 which may be noteworthy. ~Bluecrystal004 (talk · contribs) 02:23, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I guess I kinda feel the same. I don't have MK64, but I do time trial MKW a decent bit and MK7 from time to time. NintendoTTTEfan2005 (talk) 02:25, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Definition too narrow

I feel that the term "speedrun" has outgrown simply gaming. I have seen many instances of the term being used in a context outside of videogames. This would be a massive overhaul to the page so take your time but I beleive the deffinition at least should be broadened. ANerd.png (talk) 02:40, 19 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done- Wiktionary already has a definition to accommodate this at its entry for speedrun, but the broadening of the term is still in reference to the same activity, and the only encyclopedic topic is still the gaming one. ~Bluecrystal004 (talk · contribs) 16:04, 1 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest adding to the 'History' section: However, according to Sacha Bernard, it would appear that the term 'speedrun', understood as ' speed-based videogame performance ', originated with the game Radar Rat Race published in 1981 by HAL Laboratory. Any%, which involves getting to the end as fast as possible with no qualifier, [6][25] 100%, which requires full completion of a game. This may entail obtaining all items or may use some other metric.[6][25] Low%, the opposite of 100%, which requires the player to beat the game while completing the minimum amount possible.[6][25] Glitchless, which restricts the player from performing any glitches during the speedrun.[12][18] No Major Glitches, Which consist of beating the game as fast as possible while not using any "game breaking" glitches. (what i want to add) Category Extensions, Which is a mix of all random categories that didn't make it to the main game leaderboards ILoveSeaOtters (talk) 07:03, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

just for clarification after the brackets what i want to add is to the right side of them ILoveSeaOtters (talk) 07:04, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not necessarily a bad thing to add though given it's not a category in an of itself (but rather more 'the other stuff') it shouldn't just be added as a new line under the others. And probably needs a source. ♫ Melodia Chaconne ♫ (talk) 12:32, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
