Talk:Varlık Vergisi

DP Victory

If this tax was that much important for the DP victory back in 1950, they would have win the general elections of 1946 instead of waiting six years after the tax was abolished. Imho, there is logical problem there. Deliogul 21:57, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is why the 1946 elections are called "tricky" elections. 78.181.37.51 (talk) 21:18, 27 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tax Collection

Is there any resource for the sentence "The tax was paid by all citizens of Turkey, but higher tariffs were generally imposed on the country's non-Muslim inhabitants, often in an arbitrary and unrealistic way." In those days, non-Muslim population was wealthier than Muslim population. It is NOT discriminatory, because of the fact that EVERY Turkish citizen was entitled to pay it. It is not the governments fault if the non-Muslims were rich. There is bias in the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.253.241.140 (talk) 10:53, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is absolutely no bias in the article. I have added the amount of taxes which were to be paid. Just compare the tax of 4,94% for Muslims with the colossal tax of 232% (!!) for Christian Armenians. This is undeniably discriminatory! --Markus2685 (talk) 10:41, 12 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There is some ambiguity in the tax amounts. No information is given on what it is based on? Do those percentages show income, net-worth or something else? 137.82.157.147 (talk) 06:24, 8 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
