Usage
- Use this rcat for any redirect that is an alternative scientific name of an organism and targets the scientific name used as the title of the Wik.ipedia.Pro article (which should be the scientific name accepted as correct by reliable sources).
- An unnamed parameter may be used to specify more precisely the kind of organism involved and to put the article in the appropriate subcategory. For example,
{{R from alternative scientific name|fungus}}sorts the redirect to Category:Redirects from alternative scientific names of fungi.
- Parameters currently supported and the resulting categories are:
Unrecognized switch parameters will place the page into the category Category:Redirects from alternative scientific names using unknown values for parameter 1
- Add this rcat to a redirect page (not a talk-page redirect) in the following manner:

- Template {{Rcat shell}} is an alias for the Redirect category shell template, which may be used to add as many appropriate rcats as needed, usually from one to seven, along with their parameters, to a redirect. - This is in accord with instructions found at Wik.ipedia.Pro:REDCAT.
- This rcat populates Category:Redirects from alternative scientific names or one of its subcategories and Category:Printworthy redirects by default. In 2003, efforts were begun to support the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of increasing access and availability of Wik.ipedia.Pro articles in printed versions. A mainspace redirect from alternative scientific nomenclature is usually suitable for a printed version. In other words such redirects are usually printworthy.

- Use of the 2nd parameter subdues the Printworthy redirects category and populates Category:Unprintworthy redirects.
